IMA WEST CHESTER CHAPTER OF PENNSYLVANIA

PROFESSIONAL MEETING ON TUESDAY, April 21, 2009

 

                The Board of Directors of the West Chester Chapter is committed to provide IMA professional services and activities to members working or living in Chester County and neighboring areas in Upper Montgomery and Delaware Counties. The Chapter has scheduled its next professional technical meeting with a hot topic, excellent speaker, and a convenient location.

The Keynote topic is “How Your Leadership Can Add Value to Your Company through Informed Advocacy”

Former Senator Earl Baker discusses proven strategies that will help you achieve your company’s goals in today’s challenging environment

Earl Baker is a well known and highly respected leader in public affairs, management, and advocacy. 

In his public service career, Earl Baker was elected 16 times, never losing an election.  From his longtime home town of Malvern Borough in Chester County he elected as Borough Committeeman, County Commissioner, and State Senator.  He also served as Republican State Chairman of Pennsylvania and was a Member of the National Committee.  He was elected as a Delegate to three National Conventions and was a Presidential Elector in the Electoral College in 1988. 

Related to his public service, Earl also taught on the Political Science Faculty of Temple University for twenty years, was Staff Associate of the American Political Science Association in Washington, D.C., and was a naval officer.  He has an A.B. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from American University, Washington, D.C. 

Subsequent to his public service he was Vice President of the Unisys Corporation for five years, and then was President of Presbyterian Homes for five years.  Then he founded his own firm, Earl Baker Consulting, which provides government relations, marketing and strategic planning to his clients.  He also directs the Executive Leadership Program of the Pennsylvania Business Council.  He and his wife Jackie and now live in Wayne.  They have two grown children, Todd and Toby.

Prior to our Keynote Address, Andrea Giles, Business Development Specialist, U.S. Small Business Administration will present an update on President Obama’s recently announced small business stimulus plan.

 

Introducing Earl Baker and Andrea Giles and facilitating the question and answer session will be Mr. Martin P. Manco CMA/ J.D. /MBA, Director of the Business Practice Group at the law firm of Goldberg, Meanix & Muth.  Mr. Manco has extensive experience in the biomedical fields, commercial real estate, oil and gas, construction and construction materials, and a variety of manufacturing and service industries, including obtaining below-market financing and other important support for clients from Federal, state and local government agencies.  Previously he served as secretary, general counsel, CFO and CEO for a number of early stage and turnaround enterprises.  Marty has taught courses at Penn State Great Valley in entrepreneurship and business acquisitions.  Marty holds an undergraduate degree from The Wharton School, an MBA and Advanced Certificate in MIS from Penn State, and his JD from Widener University Law School. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, the Licensing Executives Society, and the Knowledge Management Group of Philadelphia.

The meeting will be held at West Chester University Graduate Center, 1160 McDermott Drive, West Chester, PA, a central location very close to Route 202 at Boot Road exit. Directions are attached.
